(San Jose, Costa Rica, November 19, 2024) – Renowned academic and anti-corruption expert Robert Klitgaard of Claremont Graduate University was awarded the 2024 Sheikh Tamin Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award today in San Jose, Costa Rica. Presented annually in support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and organized by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center, the award celebrates global champions advancing integrity and transparency across five categories.
Klitgaard was celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions in the category of Academic Research and Education.
Professor Klitgaard has been involved in anti-corruption work since the 1980s. He authored sixteen books, including “Controlling Corruption”, which played a key role in launching the global Anti-Corruption movement, and “Tropical Gangsters”, recognized by “The New York Times” as one of its "Books of the Century."
Klitgaard has consulted for prominent international organizations like the World Bank, IMF as well as national and local governments. His work has had a global influence, providing practical tools for reform and shaping Anti-Corruption initiatives in countries like Colombia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and China.
